Alvin B. Cowan, Jr., 76, of Perryton, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024 in Perryton, Texas.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Perryton, Texas, with Rev. Pat Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Ochiltree Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. of Perryton, Texas.

Alvin was born on June 30, 1947 in Perryton, to Alvin Benjamin (Dude) Cowan and Elsie Crumpton Cowan. He married his wife, Rennie Eileen Kile, on December 15, 1968 in Perryton.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Perryton. Mr. and Mrs. Cowan spent the better part of the past 30 plus years volunteering in the nursery, and teaching Sunday school classes from kindergarten to second grade and eventually helped his wife in the church library. Alvin was a devoted husband, father and “Pa” to countless kids of all ages.

Alvin served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Army Accommodation Medal with V device for Exceptionalism of Heroism Republic of Vietnam on August 23, 1968.

After his release, he returned to the Perryton area. Alvin began working as a diesel mechanic after attending school in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. In the years following his work as a mechanic, he got his HVAC and Master Plumber license, operating his own business. He also worked for Ochiltree County for 21 years.

After retiring from the county, he continued operating his plumbing/HVAC business until 2022. He loved helping others. Even after his retirement, he stayed busy with various jobs, but his favorite activity was watching his grandkids. He would drive all over watching them participate in games, practice and livestock shows.

Alvin is survived by two daughters, Bendi Mabbitt of Perryton, and Shelly Mc-Cutchen of Amarillo, two sons, Kile Cowan and Kelly Cowan, both of Perryton; three brothers, Tommy Cowan, and Leland Cowan, both of Balko, Oklahoma, and Bruce Cowan of Perryton; five sisters, Linda O’Dell and Lola Douglas, both of Balko, Oklahoma, Martha Dunn of Elkhart, Kansas, Janet Gift of Port Lavaca, and Judy Bennett of Rockwall; six granddaughters, Ashleigh Sanders, Courtney Morris, Kilee Cowan, Chambrey McCutchen, Ella Cowan and Brenlee McCutchen; and five grandsons, Daniel Mabbitt, Christian Cowan, StephenCowan,BoCowan, and Hadlee Cowan; and eight great-grandchildren.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one brother, Loyd Ray Cowan.
